I guess you like travelling, huh?
There are a lot of jobs you can do while travelling and you can even ask your boss to ask work remotely if possible. Of course, that can only work if you can do the job remotely. You can’t work remotely as a waiter, but you can work remotely if you work in an office, for example, and you don’t need to meet customers.
Some jobs you can do remotely:
- Freelance Writer
- Data Entry Jobs
- Call Center
- Customer Service
- Social Media Marketing
- Web Design
- Graphic Designer
- Voice Over Artist
- House Sitting
- Video Content Creator
- Online Instructor (on platforms like Udemy)
- Affiliate Marketing
I’ll talk to you more about my favourite ones: Blogging and Affiliate Marketing. They work pretty well together. It takes some time until you make money from it, but I believe it’s worth it because once you start making money, there’s nowhere to go but up. 🙂
Affiliate marketing is when you recommend a product or a service to someone and you get a commission if the sale happens.
For example, let’s say you’ve written an article about the best 10 umbrellas you can find online. If someone reads your article and decides to get an umbrella on your list because of your recommendation, then you get a commission.
It’s like real estate services.
How to Start
Let’s see the steps you need to follow. Some of them are easier than others but don’t worry; before you know, you’ll be great in affiliate marketing.
Step 1: Choose your Niche
First of all, you need to choose a niche for your blog. Niche is just a fancy word we use for an audience. For example, you can choose as your niche, people with pets, or people who want to learn a foreign language. A lot of times, we use the word niche not only for the audience but also for the topic itself. For example, instead of saying that your niche is people with cats, you can say that your niche is cats.
Your niche can be anything you like talking about. Hobbies, pets, martial arts… anything. If you need some help check out some niche ideas here.
Step 2: Choose a Brand
The second task for you is to find a name for your business. It can be literally anything you want, but it’s better if it’s relevant to your niche. It’s not necessary, though.
Step 3: Build your Site
If you don’t have any previous experience, this may seem difficult, but don’t worry, it’s not. You’re a smart person and you can do it as all of us did.
The best platform to create a site is WordPress and it’s very easy to start your blog. Of course, you don’t need to write any code, don’t stress over that.
Step 4: Write Content
Which again may sound terrifying if you haven’t done it before, but it’s not.
To write a post, all you have to do to write content is:
As long as you’re helpful and you offer solutions to people’s problems, you’ll do great!
Step 5: Promote Quality Products
And that’s a very important part of the process. You want to recommend only quality products and services. You want to help others, not just get their money. It’s better to build trust between you and your readers, so they want to come back for more advice.
This way, you’ll grow your audience over time.
Step 6: Start Affiliate Marketing
After starting to get some visits, you can start applying to affiliate programs.
One of the biggest is Amazon Associates. It’s Amazon’s affiliate program and since lots of people buy from Amazon every day, it’s a good place to start if you promote products on Amazon.
After you apply for a program and you get accepted, they give you special links from the products you can use on your blog so you can get commissions. These links help the companies know who send people to their site so that they can give you your commissions.
Don’t worry about applying to affiliate programs if you don’t have people coming to your site yet. It’s not worth it. It’ll take some time until you start getting visitors (about 6 months for new sites), so meanwhile, try to write a lot of quality content.
I’ll finish this post with a few tips:
Write a lot of Content
Make sure you write as much as you can in a post. Try to answer each question that may arise so people don’t need to search anywhere else for it. Your post will have every answer.
Don’t stop until you hit 100 posts
A lot of people start and then they give up after a while. But the thing is that this job is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes time, patience and work.
So if you decide to give it a chance, don’t stop working on it until you write at least 100 posts. This number may sound high when you start, but if you write two posts every week, you can reach this number in less than a year.
As with anything, it’s easier if you start some training instead of trying alone. A good one I can recommend is Wealthy Affiliate and you can try it for free if you want.
Of course, good training can’t replace hard work, so don’t think you won’t need to work. Just that you’ll make fewer mistakes along the way and that you’ll have someone to ask questions when something goes wrong. Not bad, huh?
That’s a quick guide on how to start your own blog and if you’re interested, you should start NOW. You don’t have time to waste, so take the first step today. Start thinking about what you’d like to blog about. 😀
Let me know what you think about blogging and, if you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer! Any suggestions are always welcome, so tell me about topics you’d like me to write.
