For the next few days, I want to talk about something important. Something you need to succeed, but most people neglect to work on it.
The Right Mindset
It may seem insignificant, but starting a business – especially one that needs time, without making money at first – takes a toll on you, after a while. And the fact that you haven’t invested a lot of money at it – or nothing at all – makes quitting even easier.
But of course, where there’s a will, there’s a way.
How To Stay Motivated
Here are my top 5 tips on how to stay motivated when working from home:
1. Get a work buddy
Do you have a friend who works from home? Maybe she learns a new language? Or he studies part-time?
If they have any amount of time when they need to focus on studying/working on something, you may be able to help each other.
Set a schedule and work at the same time. If you can work at the same place, so much the better! But even if you don’t, you could make a video call so that you can see each other studying/working. It’s crazy motivating to see someone else working with you.
If you don’t have any friend that does that, check out Youtube channels to find Study-with-me videos. I usually watch Study Vibes, but if you search for Study with me videos on Youtube, you’ll find hundreds of channels.
2. Make sure you have off time
You just can’t work 24/7. You can’t even work 16/7 without having a mental breakdown at some point.
Make sure you set breaks during the day and, even though your schedule may be demanding, set a day every month when you won’t be doing any work related to your business.
3. Set milestones
Set milestones – small and big ones – and celebrate them. It’s important to feel you’ve made it. Because when you work for yourself, there’s no one to tell you: “Well done!“.
Well, if you don’t have that someone, be that someone!
4. Commit to tasks instead of hours
Instead of saying you’ll work for 8 hours, say you’ll work until you finish a certain list of tasks. You’ll feel more motivated to finish as soon as possible.
5. If the why is big enough, the how is easy
When you feel unmotivated, go back and remember why you started:
- Why did you start?
- What are your goals?
- What do you define as success?
