Would you like to earn money writing reviews?
Writing reviews is a great way to escape 9 to 5. We all like to tell our opinion. (Either people want to hear it or not.) And if you choose the right way to do it, you can even turn this side-hustle into a business.
But first things first. Let’s start with what you gain from it. A goal is the most effective incentive to work hard on something, after all.
Why Would You Start This?
Having your own business comes with a lot of benefits. The top 5 on my list are:
- You won’t have a boss to tell you what to do.
- You can work wherever and whenever you want.
- You earn more than a mere salary so you can stop worrying about money.
- You can do all the things you wanted but could never afford.
- You never have to worry about getting fired over stupid things.
It sounds good, right? If you’d like to work like that, let me show you then how to make money writing reviews online.
How To Start
Starting something from scratch is never easy. You don’t know how to start or where to start. So here are some steps you can follow:
1. Choose Your Topic
First of all, you need to choose the topic of your reviews. What would you like to write about? Cameras, pets, guitars? You can literally write reviews on anything you want. There are billions of people online. There will always be people that are interested in the exact topic you chose.
Make sure you write about something you really like. It’ll be more fun and you’ll enjoy writing more. Plus, if you choose something you like, it’ll probably be something you like talking a lot about. It’ll be easier to write about it because you’ll have more to say.
2. Build A Site
The second step is building a site. I know that it may sound complicated, especially if you have no experience in it. When I started my blog, I had no idea how to do it. Thankfully, I found some training on how to start. The training included step-by-step instructions on how to build your own site. Check it out if you need. It’s free to join.
What’s the best about having your own site is that anyone can see your success. So if you want to show your work to someone, all you have to tell them is the name of your site. It’s like a live CV.
3. Write Reviews
Writing reviews is the most important task you’ll do on your website. Here are some tips for writing great reviews:
- Be Helpful
Reviewing stuff is all about helping others find the best answer to their question, the best solution to their problem. So when you write reviews, have in mind that people will make a decision based on what you write. Think about them and how you can help them. And think what you can do to help them more than they expect.
- Be Thorough
When someone wants to read a review about something, they want to learn everything possible about it. At least, everything possible that can make an impact on their decision.
So cover anything that you believe it’s useful to your readers. For example:
– Personal opinion: If possible, use the product and tell your personal opinion about it. If you can’t afford it, then make sure to research a lot, so the information you’ll give to your readers is as accurate as possible. Writing a review is like talking to your best friend about a product you just tried. You tell them about what you liked and what you hated about the product.
– Product Images: Again, if it’s possible to use the product yourself, then make sure to take some great photos of it. Usually, people use the images from the online stores, so you’ll make a difference.
– Pros & Cons: Make a list of the pros and cons the product has. Don’t forget to write about the cons. People want to know about them, too.
- Be Honest
Be honest in your reviews. If a product is useful to them, tell your readers. If a product isn’t helpful, tell them. If you can find something cheaper that does the same job, then recommend it to them.
Treat them like you’d like to be treated. Find them the solution you’d like to follow in their shoes. People appreciate honesty. Develop a good relationship with your readers, and they’ll trust you more because they see you care for them.
4. Promote Your Site
After writing your first review, you can start promoting your site.
Start with social media. You can use either your personal accounts or create new accounts, pages or groups just for your site. Share your links on social media, engage with your readers and ask their opinion.
The important part is to set some time aside to do it every day, not only once in a while. Consistency is everything. On the other hand, try not to spend too much time on it. We sometimes forget ourselves on social media.
You can also join forums (for example, Quora) and start building your reputation there, as well. Share your links but don’t spam. You’ll just get banned from the communities. Try to be helpful and if you have a good article that you think it’ll help someone, share it with them.
5. Monetise Your Site
The final step is to start monetising your site. Wait until you have some traffic to your site and then start thinking about ways to make money from it. When you think you’re ready, I’d recommend you to start with affiliate marketing. You already have the reviews done, after all.
What’s important: Don’t make money your main goal. Your main goal should always be to help people. The money will come, after a while, if you get good at helping your readers.
Before starting your site, let’s make sure you’re aware of a few things:
It Takes Time
This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. You don’t have to invest lots of money, so you will have to invest something more valuable. Your time. If you don’t believe that you can commit to this for a year, at least, don’t even start it. You’ll just waste your time.
You’ll Have To Work
You can’t make money simply by clicking one button. You’ll have to work. This is not for the lazy ones.
But I can promise you that it will be fun because it will be about something you love!
Consistency Is Everything
If you work on and off on your site, it will be difficult to succeed. So make a schedule you can follow and stick to it. It doesn’t have to be demanding, but it has to be one you can follow. Success will come sooner or later.
And that’s it! Here are the 5 main steps to start making money writing reviews. If you think you’re ready for this, see how I started my own site. You may get inspired!
If you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer! Any suggestions are always welcome, so tell me about topics you’d like me to write.
See you next time!
