Would you like to start internet marketing from home?
Well, I guess that if you’re here, you’re at least thinking about it. Maybe you’re not sure, but you’re tempted by this career. But you may have ended up here without really knowing what internet marketing is, so let’s start with the basics.
What is Internet Marketing?
Internet marketing, or digital marketing, is marketing using digital technologies, mainly on the internet, thus the name.
- All these ads you see on social media? Internet Marketing
- All the emails you get from companies? Internet Marketing
- The ads you see on search engines? Internet Marketing
I could keep going on, but you get the point. It’s marketing, just online. It’s promoting products or services to potential customers. Easy, right?
Why Should You Start Working From Home?
Now, why would you start working from home? Isn’t it easier to start working in a company? What exactly does it offer you? What do you earn from this?
Ok, first of all, you don’t have a boss over your head. No one to tell you what to do and no one gets to decide how much money you make. It’s all up to you. That’s the most important benefit for me. Independence.
Second, you get to work whenever and wherever you want. How is that for a change? You get to escape 9 to 5 and work from home or a beach or even space. You know where you don’t get to work from? In a claustrophobic office where you get drained every day for the last… how many years they’ve been so far?
Third, you get to have your own business. You know what that means? The sky is the limit. Success is up to you!
Again, I could keep going on with the pros of working at home, but you’re in a hurry, right? You want to start now, so you don’t have time to lose. I hear you, boss. 🙂
How Can You Start?
So let me you how I started with internet marketing. I think that’s the most honest way to do it (by telling you how I started), so you can start the same way. It takes patience and work, but you know what it doesn’t take? Lots of money.
I’ll say that again. Total disclosure: It takes, work, time, consistency and patience. If you’re not willing to work hard to build your own business, just turn around and try to find something else.
1. Find Your Niche
Ok, Step 1: First of all, you have to find your niche, a.k.a. the main topic of your site. What would you like to write about? Guitars, basketball, dogs, surfing, stamps?
What is your hobby? What is the one thing you can spend hours learning things about it and you don’t get bored? Come on, we all have one. I don’t know if you think that your hobby is eccentric. There are 8 billion people out there, and at least half of them have access to the Internet. Believe me, no matter what you decide, there are people that like it, too.
The most important tips I have to offer you about choosing your niche is:
- Find something you love!
I don’t care if you know a lot about it or nothing at all. But you have to choose something you love. You’ll spend months working on it. You have to love it; otherwise, you’ll give up. It may be something you’ve been working on your whole life. It may be something you’ve never touched, but it’s always been a secret passion of yours that you wanted to follow. But there is something.
- Don’t try to find what is popular now!
Trends come and go. Plus, if there’s something popular, you’ll have more competition. So, I’ll tell you a cliché: Follow your heart!
You got it, right? Choose something you love and get ready to become an authority on it. Because in the years to come, you will be an authority on it!
2. Build Your Site
Step 2: Second, you get to build a site based on your niche.
Yeah, yeah, it sounds difficult if you don’t know how. Don’t worry. No one knew when they started. The same way we all did it, you’ll do it, too!
I’d recommend you to start some training on it, because even though, it’s easy to build a site, you need some guidance on how to use it efficiently. The training I used is on Wealthy Affiliate. It’s an online community that includes training for internet marketers.
You don’t need any experience. It’s for beginners and you can join for free – no credit card info required. (I’m pretty sure that’s the main things you want to know about it, plus the fact it’s not a scam. Don’t worry about that.) For more information on it, check my full review.
3. Write Content
Step 3: Third, you need to start writing content. Content about your niche.
Let’s say you chose dogs as your niche. You can write about:
- what they should eat
- how often you should wash them
- how to train them
- how to take care of them
There are a lot of dog lovers out there that have no idea how to take care of their dog, but they want to learn. And you can help them.
That’s the main thing you’ll do on your site. You’ll help people. You’ll find solutions to their problems, based on personal experience or research. Don’t worry about being a writer. Most people that start can’t write a 200-word article. You’ll learn like the rest of us. The important part is being helpful.
Honestly, it’s been so much time since I read a post about starting internet marketing and I decided to give it a chance, so I don’t really remember how fascinating or terrifying it sounds. Internet marketing and working on my site are parts of my daily routine now. 😛
So let me know what you think about it. Does it seem easy, hard, boring?
4. Promote Your Site
And Step 4: Last, but not least, it’s promoting your site. Promotion is one more thing you get to learn while having a site.
How will people learn about your site? Lots of ways, but the main – free – ones are:
- Social Media: How many hours an average person spends on social media? Well, more than they should!
- Search Engines: How many times a day do you google stuff? Enough to make a verb out of it.
Internet marketing is the art of using these and a lot more ways to get more traffic to your site.
So, these are the main steps to follow not only to become an internet marketer but to build your own online business, as well. The training I recommend you is Wealthy Affiliate because that’s the one I followed. Of course, you can find a lot of resources online on internet marketing, so check out those, too. Just make sure they are from people who know what they’re talking about.
Let me know what you think about internet marketing. Does it sound like something you’d be interested in starting?
If you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer! Any suggestions are always welcome, so tell me about topics you’d like me to write.
See you next time!
